Reason #1: Your Calorie NEEDS Are Wrong

The most common way to determine how many calories you need is based on your weight and your daily activity level. You determine your “basal metabolic rate” (or BMR), multiplied by your activity level.

Your calorie needs change from day to day, and hour to hour based on your own metabolic cycle.

You are chasing an incorrect goal you will never reach.

However, your metabolism is affected by a wide range of factors, including your gender, your age, your body type, your nutrition, your stress levels, your hormones, the quantity and quality of your sleep, and so much more.

In fact, your metabolic rate will vary so much from day-to-day that it is unlikely any needs calculator will give you an accurate target. These means you are chasing an incorrect goal which you will never reach.

Food labels and nutrition data are very deceptive, and calorie counts are often inaccurate. In fact, 1 out of 5 restaurants underestimate their calorie counts.

"A calorie is a calorie" is the mantra of many weight-loss and fitness gurus who tell you that all calories are created equal. They say that all that matters is knowing how many calories you consume versus how many you burn.

But this notion completely disregards the metabolic and hormonal impact of foods. For example, why is it that you feel full for hours after eating a piece of steak, but feel hungry moments later after eating a slice of pizza?

That's because you digest different foods differently, under different circumstances, at different times of the the day. (As if counting calories isn’t complicated enough!)
