Big Fat Mistake 9:
Are Your Hormones Out of Whack?
Bodybuilders, fitness models, and professional athletes are not superhuman from birth. They have achieved a high level of fitness and low body fat by following a very specific and often regimented diet and lifestyle. Like many other experienced diet and fitness professionals, I believe your body composition is 80% diet and 20% training. That means that you can achieve superhuman results, too – you just need to follow the right advice.
What about genetics? We all have the genes to program our bodies to be lean, muscular, and healthy. The trick to achieving optimal body composition is to eat specific foods and perform the right kinds of exercise. The Wild Diet System will show you foolproof strategies to get incredible results – naturally, quickly, and healthfully.
If you are overweight, it is your diet and hormones that are out of alignment, not your genes. Through dietary modification and exercise alone, the FBM system naturally restores insulin sensitivity, boosts your testosterone, increases human growth hormone, and optimizes your glucose transporter system so that you burn fat and build muscle naturally and safely.
An example of naturally optimizing your hormones is by eating thyroid-stimulating foods.
The thyroid controls your metabolism. If your thyroid is underactive, weight loss is nearly impossible. Conversely, eating foods that optimize its function boost your metabolism and result in fat loss.
Thyroid hormone triiodothyronine (T3) boosts the metabolism by increasing oxygen and energy consumption. This increases the rate at which fats are taken up into cells for energy (used by the body for fuel instead of hanging out on your love handles) and also increases heart rate.
In order to manufacture T3, the body needs two minerals: selenium and iodine. Sufficient selenium (200 mcg/day) can be found through direct supplementation or in eating three Brazil nuts daily. Iodine (1 mg/day) can be obtained from eating seaweed or supplementing with kelp tablets.
When you optimize your thyroid, you optimize your metabolism and kick-start fat burning. So let’s get your hormones pumping again, yeah?
Hormontastic,
Abel

Since the US RDA for selenium is 55 mcg/day, what’s the basis for your 200 mcg/day recommendation?
jake3_14 says
Also, the selenium in brazil nuts depends on the amount of selenium in the soil where the nuts were grown. Over time, it’s likely that the selenium in the soil will decrease, simply because industrial farming techniques deplete soil and don’t replenish micronutrients. How can we be sure that brazil nuts have the amount of selenium the USDA statistics measured way back when?
Abel James says
Hi Jake, great questions and that’s a great point about depletion of micronutrients. Many folks are deficient in selenium (including myself), so supplementation and/or eating Brazil nuts is a good option. This is especially true for men as selenium can play a role in boosting testosterone.
