You know that feeling when your stomach turns into a bottomless pit?
Even if you read food labels like a hawk, sneaky appetite-stimulating ingredients can be lurking in spices, sauces and other foods without ever being included on the label.
In fact, there are a number of ingredients food manufacturers aren’t required to disclose that might jeopardize your ability to moderate food intake.
So if you’ve ever found yourself mindlessly shoveling evermore food into your mouth without satisfying your hunger, propelling you into a vicious cycle of overeating, crashing and feeling wobbly for the rest of the day, this is the show for you.
After teaching people how to make delicious food from scratch for many years, today’s guest is starting a food revolution with her real food sauce and spice company, and she’s here to share unique insights into what exactly food manufacturers are hiding in widely available store-bought foods.
Returning to the show is the wonderful and talented Anna Vocino, a best-selling cookbook author, voice-over talent, stand-up comic and co-host of the Fitness Confidential podcast with our friend, Vinnie Tortorich. Anna has voiced thousands of commercials, cartoons, movies, promos, radio stations, and video games, which is her super cool day job to support her passion of food blogging and cookbook authoring.
In this conversation with Anna Vocino, we’re chatting about:
- The surprising truth about what’s NOT listed on ingredient labels
- Why the simplicity of “No Sugars, No Grains” works out so well for so many people
- Why we should buy from our local farmers as much as possible
- What continuous glucose monitoring experiments revealed about fried dry starches vs boiled starches
- Anna’s homemade Magic Bullion recipe for a delicious, clean flavor-starter
- How to say “no” when robots try to take our jobs away (it’s already happening)
- And tons more…
Alright, let’s go hang out with Anna.

Before You Go
Here’s a note that came in from Claire, who joined in one of our most recent Wild Challenges. She says:
Hi Abel,
Thank you so much for providing the framework of tracking the Wild Diet.
I have done a couple of your challenges and each time I seem to work on a different aspect and also get an ah ha moment.
This time it was the importance of a nutrient dense diet … and when attending to this my hunger goes away!
Last time it was my sleep 💤
I am eating pretty well now
Next area to work on is the binge area albeit on super healthy food!!
Once again thank you for sharing both your knowledge and passion.
Best,
Claire
Claire, thank you so much for joining in the challenge, and I’m glad that you’re learning something new each time you do.
There are so many variables at play in this wacky world of health that sometimes it’s really important to focus on that self-quantification, tracking various parts of what’s going on in your life, your body, your nutrition, your exercise, and all the rest of it.
And when you do that and you look at that data and you try to learn from it and implement new strategies into your daily practices, that’s when you really get results.
And even more importantly, since health is very much a moving target, and there are lots of obstacles and challenges that will come your way, you’ll find that you’re building some sort of internal compass to help navigate the challenges that you’ll be facing in the future.
Because as soon as we think we have it all figured out, something changes and the rug is pulled from out beneath us, so it’s important to keep your eyes on your health and make sure that you’re being honest with yourself, whether you’re getting results or not, there’s always a way to be a little bit better.
So thank you so much for joining in the Wild Challenge, Claire. We’re glad that you’ve enjoyed a few of them so far, and we look forward to seeing you in the next one.

Well, I’ve always said there are a lot things the food is not telling us. And it is up to us to research and find out what’s best for us. It is good that brought all these up. This article is so revealing that I had to research a lot on what goes into my stomach.
Totally agree with you. Thank goodness we can shop for foods from our local farmers, and it doesn’t get better than cooking from scratch at home.
I love Anna’s take on a flavor starter. Super simple — salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder — BAM, hard to go wrong there.
