How can we get the most out of our genetic potential?
Breakthroughs in science, research and epigenetics show us that we’re not simply stuck with the genes we inherited from our parents.
In fact, it’s lifestyle factors like nutrition, movement, mindset and our environment that truly control the way that our genes are expressed. These simple choices we make every day snowball to create vitality and longevity or ill health and disease depending on how you live your life.
So if you’re interested in finding and treating the underlying causes of ill health instead of just chasing symptoms, this is the show for you.

Quick note before you go
Here’s a review that came in for the podcast on Apple iTunes. Blaujovianmer rates the show 5 out of 5 stars says:
“Amazing podcast
This is legitimately my favorite health podcast. Abel is relatable and has very good guests on all the time. I’m of the paleo/keto (ish) mindset with nutrition. I feel like Abel is the most balanced though and doesn’t get so fringe that you feel you have to become a monk to be healthy.”
Thanks so much for leaving that review. It definitely makes me smile.
We do like to dabble in the fringe from time to time, but hopefully it doesn’t scare too many of you away.
And you certainly don’t need to live like a monk to be healthy. We all deserve a bit of fun here and there too.

Bill says
When statistics are given about annual sugar consumed by people, does it include things such as honey, maple syrup, etc? Or is it just sugar purchased added sugar and HFCS to foods/products?
Alyson Rose says
Hi Bill, thanks for the question/comment. I believe the statistic that Dr. Bland mentions about the average American consuming 130 pounds of sugar per year includes total sugar consumption in the diet…
https://health.ucsd.edu/news/features/pages/2017-10-27-listicle-mary-poppins-was-an-enabler.aspx#:~:text=In%20a%20year%2C%20Americans%20consume,grown%20pigs%20ready%20for%20market.
There are other reports/statistics that measure only added sugars (and don’t include naturally occurring sugar found in things like fruit, veggies, milk, etc) …

I would think both types of statistics would include honey and maple syrup in their calculations as both an “added sugar” as well as part of the total sugar consumption.
