I don’t know anyone who has made it through the past few years unscathed. But can we really program our nervous systems and brains after trauma?
The answer is unequivocally yes. And the methods we’ll be discussing today may surprise you.
Whether you’re easing anxiety through a strength training program or reversing PTSD by playing video games in multi-sensory virtual reality with Smell-O-Vision, it feels like we’re suddenly living in the future.
But no matter what you’ve gone through, you have the power to take the reins of your own life back and take control of your destiny.
So I’m thrilled to welcome back to the show this week, my friend and ABC TV co-star Jay Cardiello. Jay is an entrepreneur and professional coach who has worked with pro athletes in the NFL and MLB for over 10 years, and coached some of the biggest names in entertainment, such as 50 Cent, J.Lo, Rami Malek, and many more.
Jay is also the author of the bestselling book, Body Weight Strength Training, a TEDx presenter, and of course, long time listeners may remember him from our days co-starring together on the hit ABC network TV show, My Diet is Better Than Yours.
Today, he’s here to show us how we can get physically fit and unlock our potential by working with our minds. You’re about to learn:
- What A-list celebrities do when they need to drop 30 pounds quickly for a starring role
- How to unlock your potential with the same habits as world champion athletes, artists, actors and entrepreneurs
- How to bounce back after a disaster or a major injury
- A simple way to dissolve anger by practicing daily gratitude
- How to get a mindset boost and reduce anxiety with strength training
- How cutting edge multi-sensory virtual reality can heal and reprogram the brain after trauma
- And much more…
And just a quick note, I’m not sure exactly what happened—Jay was wearing AirPods, which should be crystal clear audio, especially from Apple, but for whatever reason it wasn’t. The audio is a little less than crystal clear on his end for this interview, and I do apologize for that.
If any of you have any ideas as to why Apple AirPods would have terrible audio quality, please send me a note to let me know and we’ll make sure to take care of it for future interviews.
And one more quick note, since it comes up in this interview. I’m not a huge fan of billionaires or Bill Gates in particular, although we did get Starlink working for an internet option to do these interviews from pretty much anywhere, which is exciting.
But the point of what we say in this interview is that you don’t necessarily understand what a pro athlete or a billionaire or someone who’s kind of the pinnacle of success, you don’t really know exactly what’s going on in anyone’s life until you get the whole perspective. You can learn a lot more from reading a book or a biography or an autobiography than you can from just surfing the internet and learning about billionaires or successful people that way.
Anyway, that was the point, and I don’t want to harp on it too much because this is a great interview and there’s a lot that Jay says that I hope you enjoy.

You can tell Jay is a great coach. So cool that he actually lives with his clients while he’s working with them. Here are a couple favorite quotes from him in this interview…
“When I take to the gym, or as I call it my lab, I bring that stress, I bring that anxiety in, and I feel like it just ripped away from me after a good sweat.” – Jay Cardiello 🏋️♂️
“I don’t grab my phone first thing, I don’t look at my emails first thing in the morning, which cause stress and anxiety. I am setting boundaries for myself.” – Jay Cardiello ☀️📒🖊
thanks for sharing
While inspirational, I did not get any information that would give me an idea as to how a movie star would lose 30 pounds for a movie role, let’s say. Being grateful, having a morning ritual, being kind to yourself, etc. does not translate to 30 pounds of weight loss. What am I missing? Maybe changing the title of this episode something else would be helpful.
