What’s with all the protein shaming lately?
When a staggering 75% to 80% of us are overweight and facing metabolic dysfunction, is eating less meat on Mondays really going to save us?
If you really want to know who is responsible for the destruction of our environment and our collective health, I’m happy to say it’s definitely not our cow friends peacefully burping on pasture.
Eliminating a high-quality protein source like meat often backfires as meat substitutes and other processed vegan and vegetarian foods pollute our bodies and the planet with petrochemicals and low quality carbs shipped back and forth across the world.
So if you’re looking to get rid of stubborn fat, like the majority of people, animal protein is often one of the most powerful tools to help you reach and maintain a healthy body composition for a lifetime.
And I’m pleased to say that joining us on the show today is Dr. Gabrielle Lyon, a functional medicine physician, speaker, and creator of The Lyon Protocol.
Dr. Lyon received her doctorate in osteopathic medicine from the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine and is board-certified in family medicine. Her specialty in Muscle-Centric Medicine has led her to be featured on “The Doctors” with published articles in Muscle and Fitness, Women’s Health, Men’s Health, and Harper’s Bazaar. In her private practice, she leverages evidence-based medicine and cutting-edge science to restore metabolism, balance hormones, and optimize body composition with the end goal of helping others discover lifelong vitality.

I listen to all of Dr Gabrielle’s interviews because she’s consistent, calm, excellent and willing to reconsider her ideas if the science is strong. This was one of the best I’ve heard her do, and dude – fat burning man – you remind me of what men used to look like when I was a kid in the late 90s!!! Fit, muscular, strong… I hope we can globally get back to this level of health. I especially LOVE that you both said personal responsibility was the way for this to happen. I truly hope the world picks up its ears and hears this, because we cannot keep relying on government or other institutions to save our own health. Great, excellent interview! Thank you so much, I enjoyed it so much I kept rewinding it to re-listen to parts. Thank you!!! From a very enthusiastic learner!
Dr. Gabrielle Lyon raises critical points about the drawbacks of fake meat in her discussion. While plant-based alternatives have gained popularity, Dr. Lyon emphasizes the importance of being cautious about what we consume. She argues that many fake meat products are heavily processed and often contain unhealthy ingredients like excessive sodium, artificial additives, and preservatives. These factors can negate the perceived health benefits of avoiding traditional meat.
Moreover, Dr. Lyon highlights the lack of essential nutrients in fake meat, such as high-quality protein, vitamins, and minerals that are naturally found in animal-based products. She advocates for a diet that includes whole, nutrient-dense foods, prioritizing quality sources of protein like grass-fed meat, wild-caught fish, eggs, and organic dairy. These options provide the essential nutrients our bodies need without the added chemicals found in processed meat alternatives.
This episode with Dr. Gabrielle Lyon sounds incredibly insightful! Her focus on protein and its importance for health is refreshing, especially in a time when nutrition can feel so confusing. I’m looking forward to learning more about her approach and the upcoming book!
